Samsung Issues Vibrant Update on Kies, but T-Mobile Says Hold Up

An update is available via Samsung Kies program that is said to address your faulty GPS  and before you download the update, know that T-Mobile has stated not to download the update from Kies and to wait for an official OTA update from them. They posted the following last night on Twitter:

If you haven’t downloaded the update from Kies, we must urge you not to as carriers are not responsible for those trigger-happy individuals. There is no word at the moment which issues T-Mobile is referring to, but we’re not too sure anyone wants to find out either. We’ll keep you guys posted when the official OTA update started hitting devices.

If you have already downloaded the update from Kies, we’re sure T-Mobile or the Android community will have a fix for you soon after the official OTA update.

What issues did the Kies update bring to your device?

Samsung I-400 Surfaces with Verizon Branding

The image above is the Samsung i-400 which is headed to Verizon by the obvious branding at the top of this device. The i-400 is rocking a rather unique form factor which, as you can see, features a smaller secondary display. We’re assuming this will display the time as well as call information.

This device is said to be running Android 2.1 and we can see the TouchWiz UI that is on Verizon’s Galaxy S phone, the Samsung Fascinate. We also know that Bing has made it to this device as the default search engine, which we’ve come to expect from Verizon after their statement regarding their relationship with Microsoft. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced nor has this device for that matter, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the holidays bring.

Anyone find this device appealing?

More Samsung Continuum SCH-i400 Images and Details Surface

With the Samsung Continuum i-400 leak this morning, we figured it would take a day or two before this device showed its face again. BGR has received a few high-res images of the Continuum showing a little more of that secondary display. Earlier we reported that we were unsure if this Samsung device would be another Galaxy S phone, and we can tell that it will be by the obvious Galaxy S branding shown in the image below compared to the original Motorola Droid.

According to BGR’s source, the Continuum features the same specs as the just-released Samsung Fascinate with a camera flash located in the center placed just below the camera as shown above. The added secondary display will be feature the Super AMOLED display which we’re learning will have some interesting features including:

  • Push updates from IM, email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, and more.

  • Displays the current weather and time when the main display is on.

  • The secondary display illuminates when notifications arrive keeping the main display off.

  • When you pick up the device, the secondary display lights up automatically summarizing your notifications.

  • You’ll also be able to swipe left and right to unveil different types of updates

This looks like a pretty interesting device; we’re kind of curious as to why Verizon is getting another Galaxy S phone so close to the recent launch of the Fascinate. What are your thoughts on the Samsung Continuum? More images of this device can be found below. Enjoy!

If you are a little agitated with Samsung and T-Mobile because of the delayed OTA update for the Samsung Vibrant, you might rest a little easier as Samsung has stated on their Facebook page that more details regarding the OTA update will be coming next week.

We are continuing to work diligently to provide you with improvements in an effort to provide you with a high quality experience. We plan to have more information to share next week regarding timing on when these updates will be delivered to customers over-the-air. Thank you for your patience.

Hopefully soon after, they’ll be pushing out an OTA update to address some of the issues we’ve been having including a GPS fix. Samsung recently stated that an update for the Vibrant was available on their Kies program, but T-Mobile quickly urged people to wait for an official OTA update from them. It’s good to know that both T-Mobile and Samsung are aware of the deep frustration this issue is causing customers. Other than the GPS issue, what are some other issues you are experiencing with your Vibrant?

Will the Samsung Transform Lead Next-Gen Devices?

It looks like Sprint is ready to roll out another device  from Samsung as,  called the Transform. The only specs out on this device that we know of is that it packs WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. As you can see above,  it looks a lot like the Epic 4G. Maybe the only difference is this one might not pack a qwerty keyboard, then again if we go by Sprint’s latest track record, this may well be another great device in the making!

Sprint and Samsung both have enjoyed a very nice summer with some great additions to the smartphone market. With Samsung being the first manufacturer to have a particular phone with slight variations on all 4 major U.S. carriers at the same time, and Sprint selling the Evo and Epic like IHOP turns out pancakes, there is reason to believe the Transform just might be the beginning of the next-gen devices.

Let’s not forget Samsung announced on September 7, 2010 its new 1GHz ARM® CORTEX™ A9-based dual-core application processor codenamed Orion which supports 1080p full HD resolution. Samsung has also stated that this will be made available to select customers in the fourth quarter and is scheduled for mass production in the first half of 2011. It is also widely speculated that the Orion will be sitting alongside the next gen of GPU’s, and that very well could mean the SGX Series5XT could be onboard.

With all that being said, none of us has any idea if this Samsung Transform will have any of the aforementioned attached to it. What we do know is that the Orion is coming sometime, somewhere, we just don’t know exactly when.  In the meantime all we can do is speculate, hope, and wait patiently for official announcements from those responsible for bringing us such glorious devices.
