T-Mobile UK to Push Out OTA Update to HTC Wildfire

T-Mobile UK will be rolling out an OTA update to their HTC Wildfire beginning Monday, October 4th that will bring more stability to the Android 2.1 firmware. Although it’s not the Android 2.2 that Wildfire users were hoping for, stability is always a good thing. T-Mobile UK posted the following in their support forums:

Hi folks

From Monday 4th October there will be an over the air (OTA) update making it’s way to T-Mobile branded Wildfires. This update will improve the general stability of the 2.1 operating system.

Watch out for it coming your way from Monday.

Cheers

Barry

Be on the lookout for the OTA update early next week. Anyone having any issues with their HTC Wildfire?

Samsung Issues Vibrant Update on Kies, but T-Mobile Says Hold Up

An update is available via Samsung Kies program that is said to address your faulty GPS  and before you download the update, know that T-Mobile has stated not to download the update from Kies and to wait for an official OTA update from them. They posted the following last night on Twitter:

If you haven’t downloaded the update from Kies, we must urge you not to as carriers are not responsible for those trigger-happy individuals. There is no word at the moment which issues T-Mobile is referring to, but we’re not too sure anyone wants to find out either. We’ll keep you guys posted when the official OTA update started hitting devices.

If you have already downloaded the update from Kies, we’re sure T-Mobile or the Android community will have a fix for you soon after the official OTA update.

What issues did the Kies update bring to your device?

More Information Re: Samsung Vibrant Update Coming Next Week

If you are a little agitated with Samsung and T-Mobile because of the delayed OTA update for the Samsung Vibrant, you might rest a little easier as Samsung has stated on their Facebook page that more details regarding the OTA update will be coming next week.

T-Mobile and Samsung are hearing your questions regarding timing for the Vibrant software upgrade. We are continuing to work diligently to provide you with improvements in an effort to provide you with a high quality experience. We plan to have more information to share next week regarding timing on when these updates will be delivered to customers over-the-air. Thank you for your patience.

Hopefully soon after, they’ll be pushing out an OTA update to address some of the issues we’ve been having including a GPS fix. Samsung recently stated that an update for the Vibrant was available on their Kies program, but T-Mobile quickly urged people to wait for an official OTA update from them. It’s good to know that both T-Mobile and Samsung are aware of the deep frustration this issue is causing customers. Other than the GPS issue, what are some other issues you are experiencing with your Vibrant?

Epic 4G OTA Update on Hold

If you’re expecting the maintenance update for the Samsung Epic 4G, you can stop manually checking for now as Sprint has stated that there are “administrative” issues that caused this hold and has issued the following statement:

We learned this evening that there were administrative issues getting this software loaded to Google’s servers.  We don’t yet have an expected time when this will be available but will update you as soon as possible.  Please see the statement below that was sent by the Sprint Product Management team:

We  were planning to release an update for your Samsung Epic 4G on 9/30.   The file was delivered and on track for distribution but late this  afternoon, we learned that an administrative issue prevented Google from  releasing the update as we had planned.  We are working to resolve the  issue and will provide an update as soon as we understand the new  delivery schedule.

We  would like to clarify that  the timing of this update has nothing to do  with the 30 day return window that many of you on these blogs have been  discussing and that this delay has nothing to do with any last minute  changes within the release package itself.  The delay is simply due to  an administrative issue that we are working to resolve.

Hopefully they’ll get this update rolling out soon. We’ll let you all know when the update starts rolling out again.

Google update Gmail App independently of OSM

Gmail update

Gmail update

If you are lucky enough to have an Android device with Froyo on it already, then you are in luck. Google have updated Gmail independently from the Android OS to allow Froyo 2.2 based devices to download a new version. Unfortunately, if you are not running Android 2.2 then you will have to wait because this update does not include you. I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy S so I cannot try out this new upgrade. However, Google’s Mobile Blog had this to say on the matter;

We just released a new version of the Gmail app in Android Market, so Gmail updates aren’t tied to Android version releases anymore. Now you can get new Gmail stuff faster without having to wait for system updates. To start you off, we’ve improved message replies, access to quoted text, and more.

Obviously it is worth checking out the entire article and, of course, if you have an Android 2.2 device, downloading the new update. Head on over to the Official Google Mobile Blog here to get cracking. It is worth noting that Google have a “known issue with important actions not sticking to the top of the screen on HTC phones running Anrdoid 2.2, like the EVO 4G and the Droid Incredible”. This news comes on 9/21/10 12:13pm Pacific time and Google promise that they are working to update this.
